A round, hand-shaped stoneware mug that sits low and full, like a little globe of color you can wrap your hands around. The body is painted in warm sunshine yellow, sweeping into softer sage and blush tones that shift as you turn the mug, each side its own small garden. Blue anemones, an orange tulip, clusters of tiny red flowers, and sprigs of lavender are painted in loose, confident brushstrokes that feel alive rather than precise. Bold black dots scatter across the yellow like a meadow seen from above, and the rounded handle is dotted to match. Every flower sits slightly differently from the last, placed by hand with the kind of easy confidence that only comes from someone who has found their own visual language and fully committed to it.

About the artist: This piece was made by Ana, a ceramic artist based in Zagreb, Croatia.
Ana is the founder of Japa Design, a small studio known for its joyful, hand-painted ceramics. What began as a return to creativity slowly grew into something more. A full creative practice shaped by instinct, patience, and a desire to make everyday objects feel special.
Working closely with her mother, an artist in her own right, Ana creates each piece by hand, from shaping and glazing to the final painted details. While it is often described as a mother–daughter studio, the process itself is deeply personal, with Ana guiding nearly every step from start to finish.
Her work is instantly recognizable for its soft color palettes, playful florals, and delicate, almost storybook-like patterns. Inspired by nature, childhood memories, and the comfort of home, each piece carries a sense of warmth and familiarity. Something meant not just to be used, but to be felt.
At the heart of her work is a simple intention: to create objects that become part of someone’s daily ritual. A morning coffee, a slow afternoon, a moment of pause. Her ceramics are designed to bring a small sense of joy to those ordinary moments, and to stay with you over time.
