There is a quietness to this mug, something about the pale ground and the loose, dreamy flowers that makes the whole thing feel like a breath out. It has the quality of a garden in early spring, unhurried, a little hazy, full of color that does not demand your attention so much as simply offer it.
White stoneware with a wide, low, bowl-like shape that feels generous in the hands, the kind of form that invites you to slow down before you have even taken a sip. Hand-painted flowers bloom across the surface in the softest palette: blush pink, periwinkle blue, sky blue, with small yellow leaf details and tiny sprigs of teal scattered between them. Fine black dots drift across the white like flecks of something caught in a gentle breeze. The circular handle is dotted to match, small and sweet and perfectly proportioned. Because each piece is painted by hand, the flowers fall in slightly different places on every mug, the colors pooling and softening in ways that cannot be planned or repeated.

About the artist: This piece was made by Ana, a ceramic artist based in Zagreb, Croatia.
Ana is the founder of Japa Design, a small studio known for its joyful, hand-painted ceramics. What began as a return to creativity slowly grew into something more. A full creative practice shaped by instinct, patience, and a desire to make everyday objects feel special.
Working closely with her mother, an artist in her own right, Ana creates each piece by hand, from shaping and glazing to the final painted details. While it is often described as a mother–daughter studio, the process itself is deeply personal, with Ana guiding nearly every step from start to finish.
Her work is instantly recognizable for its soft color palettes, playful florals, and delicate, almost storybook-like patterns. Inspired by nature, childhood memories, and the comfort of home, each piece carries a sense of warmth and familiarity. Something meant not just to be used, but to be felt.
At the heart of her work is a simple intention: to create objects that become part of someone’s daily ritual. A morning coffee, a slow afternoon, a moment of pause. Her ceramics are designed to bring a small sense of joy to those ordinary moments, and to stay with you over time.
